Featured: How do we put together wedding albums?

Hey everyone! With Christmas only 4 weeks away, (yup that’s all it is folks!) I have spent the last few days helping Graham to put together wedding albums ready to send to our lovely friends at Graham Photographic in Hillsborough and who would have thought? It’s a much tougher job that I had anticipated. So this week I thought I would write about how the processes works and some of the things that take way more time than you would imagine.

What I thought it involved

What is actually involved

Get selection from client Get selection from client
Open software Separate files from originalsMake new folders for each type of album – Main/parents book
Drop photos into software Up load files to software
Upload final images to the printers Design each individual page!!Select each image for each pageUsing multiple templatesResize the template to fit images selectedResizing each individual image to fit the template
Collate pages into order making sure that you have the pages starting correctly
Import finished file into photoshop
Create PDF of each page to send to printer
Upload PDF’s to printers

Getting the selection from Clients

This is something that going forward I think I might look at in a bit more detail and possibly send something out to clients when they are picking images as at the moment there is a mishmash of ways people send things back from a simple list of numbers to screen shots with things ringed all of which mean that your brain is having to work double time to switch between styles.

Design each page individually

WOW did this take more work than I ever imagined. making sure that the images that the client has selected flow well on a page and fit together, which ones will work will as a full page and which as a two page spread. Also then having to resize the photographs to fit with one another and work in the software templates it can take a very long time!

Collating the pages and making sure that they are ordered correctly

The software doesn’t do this automatically, and also not all of our albums start on the same side of the page. you have to make sure that the pages start on the right side and that they are in correct order especially if you have double pages in you can imagine if these are printed and they don’t actually line up together.

Uploading to the printers

Once the design is all ready to go its uploaded to the printers and they get to work their end! we get them back anytime between 2 and 4 weeks depending on how busy they are and then they are shipped out directly to you!
