Feature: Booking your photographer Part 2: A style that suits you

In the last post in this Series, we covered how to decide on your budget for your perfect wedding photographer and how to start the process of shopping, this time we want to cover how to find someone who fits your style.

There are a few things to consider when deciding what style you want.

The actual style of the photography.

First off no wedding day will be all one style. Even those photographers who say they do no posing and are “reportage” will have to stage some of the shots of your family or of you with your bridesmaids etc.and the same is true of those who have more of an emphasis on posed photos, they will still be capturing your ceremony and your speeches in a reportage style. Having said that though all photographers will have a certain way they work. For instance, Graham does pose people for the couple shots but in a relaxed casual way, check out the Gallery and take a look for yourself, all these couples are real brides and grooms and all of them have been asked to pose lightly while we all take a wander around your venue having a chat.

When deciding on your photographer it’s a good idea to ask yourself how much posing are you willing to do to get the shots you want and then you need to find a photographer who matches your ideal. Most photographers are very upfront about how much posing they will expect from a couple. It’s never worth giving people false expectations they will just end up unhappy and more stressed on their wedding day which no one wants. Everyone wants to work with people who are excited to work with them after all. That’s how you get the best out of everyone too.

The finish of the photographs

You also need to take a long hard look at the photographs in their portfolio. Do you like the finish on them? Are the colours bright and crisp, or muted and desaturated, does it look like a lot of effects have been added after the day in the office while editing. This is a gut instinct kind of thing either you love them or not. hopefully, you will get this feeling from their work, that’s what you are aiming for ideally is that these are Amazing I want to look like these girls. If you like them well enough.. if they are okay, then you are probably better off keeping looking, after all, you didn’t just pick the dress that would do you kept looking until you find YOUR dress. This is no different, every bit of your wedding needs to feel right.

Remember after the wedding everyone wants to see your photographs and you will want to be just as excited to show them to people are they are to see them. It’s worth taking the time to find someone whose style you really love and will make you look amazing!
